Costas Vasileiou

“Words. My bitter dreams, my silent sheaves, between the chasms my hands have bled pulling you out. You cannot be uprooted.”
~ Costas Vasileiou

Costas Vasileiou was born in Pano Deftera in 1939. A poet deeply connected to the Cypriot land, nature, and dialect, he has developed a distinctive poetic voice that moves between standard Greek and the Cypriot idiom.

His work includes poetry collections as well as studies on major Cypriot poets. His poems have been translated into several languages, and he has been honoured for his contribution to literature, including the Giorgos Philippou Pierides Award from the Cyprus Writers’ Union.
