Ceramics artist – Valentinos Charalambous
Valentinos Charalambous was born in 1929 in Famagusta and is considered one of Cyprus’ most significant artists, with a distinguished international career. Coming from a family of traditional potters, he later studied at the Central School of Fine Arts in London, training under leading ceramicists such as Dora Billington and Bernard Leach.
In 1957, he relocated to Baghdad, where he founded the first ceramics department at the Institute of Fine Arts, playing a pivotal role in establishing ceramics education in Iraq. He returned to Cyprus in 1985 and has since lived and worked in Limassol.
His refined technique and distinctive artistic style have earned him recognition worldwide, with works included in major museums and private collections. He has received numerous distinctions, including the Medal of Letters, Arts and Sciences (2007), and represented Cyprus at the 57th Venice Biennale in 2017.
