Painter/Printmaker – Glafkos Koumides

Glafkos Koumides was born in 1950 in Nicosia. He studied Architecture at the AA School of Architecture in London and Psychology at the University of Cologne. Since 1975, he has lived and worked in Germany.

His work is characterised by strong Byzantine influences combined with contemporary existential concerns, forming a dialogue between tradition and modernity. Alongside his visual practice, he has contributed to art discourse in Cyprus through essays and writings.

He has presented solo exhibitions in Cyprus and abroad and represented Cyprus at the Venice Biennale in 1999. In parallel, he is also active in literature, with published works and translations.
