Sculptor – Angelos Makrides
Angelos Makrides was born in 1942 in Yialousa. He studied sculpture at the Athens School of Fine Arts, graduating in 1967. He later worked in Paris (1967–1969), Nicosia (1969–1974) and Athens (1974–1986).
He has participated in major international exhibitions, including the São Paulo Biennale (1969, 1971), the Alexandria Biennale (1970), the New Delhi Triennale (1971), the Paris Biennale (1971), the Venice Biennale (1972) and the Ljubljana Print Biennale (1973).
In 2009, he took part in the exhibition Angelos Makrides – Phanos Kyriakou / Synergy at the Cyprus Museum, marking the first time the Cyprus Museum hosted an exhibition of contemporary Cypriot artists. The exhibition highlighted the dynamic development of contemporary Cypriot art and its relationship to history and tradition.
His work is included in the publication New Greek Art 1974–2004, featuring 134 Greek visual artists. Since 1986, he has lived and worked in Cyprus.
