Painter – Spyros Demetriades
Spyros Demetriades was born in 1950 in Limassol and is regarded as the first animation creator in Cyprus. He studied painting at the Academy of Applied Arts (VŠUP) in Prague, specialising in graphic arts for television and cinema, and later continued his studies in computer animation in England.
He lives and works in Limassol, where he continues to paint while developing new animation productions. His work has been presented in solo and group exhibitions in Cyprus, Greece, Monaco and Lithuania.
His animated short Cypriot Metamorphoses (1977) was screened at the Annecy International Animation Festival in France in 1979. In 2012, he represented Cypriot printmakers at a major exhibition of Cypriot printmaking in Mexico City.
